Social Media Sucks

Social media sucks the life out of me.  I was going along just fine, writing my book on my typewriter, minding my own business…

Then bam!  I read an article by Jerry Jenkins about the importance of self promotion via social media if a writer realistically wants to get published.  This made sense to me.  The publisher would logically want to ensure the writer has a voice and platform.  So I started blogging - again.  When I went to get this blog started up, I noticed an old blog I used to run, Lead Yo Fam, still has some decent traffic, though I hadn’t posted to it in several years.

I had this brilliant idea.  Why not just run two blogs!

Plus, you have to support the blogs if you want anyone to ever see them.  You have to create social networks.  So I started a twitter page, an instagram page, and a facebook page.

Go me! Right?

Distracti....look a squirrel!

Check that out.  Yeah, that sweet thaaang right up there ^.  That, my new friends, is my baby.  That right there is a 1930's era Royal Aristocrat.  Why do I love it so much?  Look at it.  So fine in all its glory.  She is a sight to behold.  Like a good wine with a fine, stanky cheese.

While what I've said up to now is 100% true, the reason I really love it is because I am so easily distracted.  Call it ADD or a personality problem or whatnot.  I have trouble staying on task.  So....if I sit down in front of the computer to try to pry some ideas out of my thick head, guess what happens.  That's right.  Nothing happens.  I start messing around with my Twitter or Instagram feeds.  (I'd say facebook, but I don't really do facebook anymore).  I might even find need to organize my contacts, or review my calendar for the 100th time.  I just don't get anything done.  Maybe, just maybe, I'm not the only one who has this.....what was that?

Let's Get It Started!

Hello readers.  Welcome to Novel Memories.  This is a quick first post to get things rolling while I am getting the site set up.

This will be one of those diary type blogs.  I'm currently working diligently on my first novel.  Surprise!  It's hard - full of conflict and inner turmoil.  It seemed like the perfect fodder for a juicy blog.

My hope is to connect with many of you who either 1.  Want to see what's up with a writer as he actually writes a novel - IN REAL TIME (sarcasm intended).  2.  People who might be experiencing some of the same things as they write.
